Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced the state would refuse Syrian refugees due to safety concerns as of Sunday.

“I’ve seen enough to know how this is going to turn out,” said Bentley. “The citizens of this great state are way too xenophobic for this to ever go over well, I cannot stand by as I watch people exit a war zone for such a hostile environment. I couldn’t allow this to happen with a clean conscience. ”

The announcement comes as a surprise as literally not one Syrian refugee has ever thought to themselves that Alabama sounds like a place they would like to be.
